Sukau Rainforest Lodge – Kinabatangan River Itinerary
Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights
Day 1 – Sepilok & Transfer to Sukau Rainforest Lodge (L/D)
- Meet at Sandakan Airport, transfer to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch a documentary and observe feeding at 10:00 am.
- Visit the nursery area for young orangutans and the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre.
- Lunch, then transfer to Sandakan Jetty. Speedboat journey (approx. 2.5 hrs) up the Kinabatangan River to Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
- Wildlife sightings possible en route (birds, crocodiles, pygmy elephants).
- Welcome drink and cold towel on arrival, check-in and afternoon tea.
- Evening river safari with quiet electric motor for wildlife viewing. Return at sunset.
- Candlelight buffet dinner overlooking the river, followed by a slide show by the naturalist guide. Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Day 2 – Sukau River Cruises & Nature Walks (B/L/D)
- 05:30 am wake-up call for early river cruise to Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake. Breakfast after return.
- Educational walk along the lodge’s Hornbill Boardwalk with in-house naturalist.
- Free time to relax or join optional activities (foot spa, batik painting, dip pool, leisure activities).
- Afternoon tea followed by another wildlife river cruise at sunset.
- Candlelight dinner and overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Day 3 – Return to Sandakan & Departure (B/L)
- Breakfast, then boat transfer back to Sandakan.
- Lunch in Sandakan before transfer to the airport for 14:30 flight to Kota Kinabalu.
- If on evening flight: optional visit to Rainforest Discovery Centre (canopy walkway, botanical gardens) and/or Sandakan Memorial Park.
- Transfer to Sandakan Airport for departure.
