Duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights
This relaxed itinerary combines the Kinabatangan River’s wildlife, the conservation highlights of Sepilok, and the laid-back island atmosphere of Gaya. A perfect choice for travelers who want to enjoy Sabah at an easy pace.
Day 1 – Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (L/D)
Pick up from Sandakan Airport by the Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort team. Transfer by boat to Abai on the lower Kinabatangan River, passing Berhala Island and mangrove-lined estuaries. Check in at Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort for lunch. Afternoon wildlife cruise followed by dinner and a guided night walk on the boardwalks. Overnight at KWR.
Day 2 – Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (B/L/D)
Early morning river cruise to oxbow lake Danau Pitas with packed breakfast. Visit Kampung Abai village to meet the Orang Sungai community. Afternoon at leisure before another river cruise in search of proboscis monkeys, hornbills and more. After dinner, night river safari. Overnight at KWR.
Day 3 – Sepilok Forest Edge Resort (B/L)
After breakfast, return by boat to Sandakan and transfer to Sepilok. In the afternoon, visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, both within walking distance of the resort. Overnight at Sepilok Forest Edge Resort.
Day 4 – Gaya Island (B)
Morning transfer to Sandakan Airport for flight to Kota Kinabalu (recommended: 10:00am AK6491). Upon arrival, transfer by boat to Gaya Island. Check in at Gaya Island Resort and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at Gaya Island Resort.
Day 5 – Gaya Island (B)
Full day to enjoy Gaya Island at your own pace. Relax on the beach, snorkel the reefs, or take part in optional activities offered by the resort. Overnight at Gaya Island Resort.
Day 6 – Gaya Island (B)
Another day to unwind on Gaya Island. Enjoy the island’s natural surroundings and resort facilities. Overnight at Gaya Island Resort.
Day 7 – Departure (B)
Morning at leisure until 11.00am boat transfer back to Kota Kinabalu for onward travel. End of service.
