Duration: 10 Days / 9 Nights

This itinerary combines Sabah’s must-see highlights: orangutans at Sepilok, river safaris along the Kinabatangan, pristine rainforest exploration at Danum Valley, cozy overnights at HAK’s B&B in Lahad Datu, and the island paradise of Pom Pom. A perfect balance of wildlife, adventure and relaxation.

Day 1 – Sepilok Forest Edge Resort (D)

Arrive at Sandakan Airport and transfer by taxi to Sepilok Forest Edge Resort. In the afternoon, visit on your own the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and/or the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Overnight at Sepilok Forest Edge Resort.

Day 2 – Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (B/L/D)

Breakfast at Sepilok. Late morning pick-up and transfer to Sandakan Jetty. Boat transfer (~1.5 hrs) to Abai on the lower Kinabatangan River, passing Berhala Island and mangrove estuaries. Check in at Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort for lunch. Afternoon wildlife cruise, followed by dinner and a guided night walk. Overnight at KWR.

Day 3 – Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (B/L/D)

Early morning river cruise to oxbow lake Danau Pitas with packed breakfast. Visit Kampung Abai village to meet the Orang Sungai community. Afternoon at leisure or explore the surroundings. Late afternoon tributary cruise for more wildlife encounters. After dinner, night river safari. Overnight at KWR.

Day 4 – HAK’s B&B, Lahad Datu (B/D)

After breakfast, two-hour boat journey upriver to Sukau, then overland transfer to Lahad Datu. Overnight at HAK’s B&B. Dinner and breakfast included.

Day 5 – Danum Valley Field Centre (L/D)

Meet at HAK’s B&B in Lahad Datu in the morning before your 9:00am transfer to Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC). Arrival, registration, check-in and briefing by DVFC staff. Lunch at the centre. In the afternoon, introductory forest walk with your guide to spot orangutans, red leaf monkeys and hornbills. After dinner, join a guided night walk. Optional 4x4 night safari can be arranged upon check-in. Overnight at DVFC.

Day 6 – Danum Valley Field Centre (B/L/D)

Early morning jungle trek to experience the rainforest awakening, or optional 4x4 drive to Bukit Atur for sunrise views above the canopy. Breakfast at the centre, followed by guided trekking tailored to your interests. Lunch, then time to swim in the Ulu Segama River. Afternoon trek with your guide. After dinner, included night walk or optional 4x4 safari. Overnight at DVFC.

Day 7 – HAK’s B&B, Lahad Datu (B)

Optional early morning rainforest activity before breakfast. Morning at leisure until check-out at 11:30am. Transfer back to Lahad Datu, arriving around 1:30pm. Overnight at HAK’s B&B.

Day 8 – Pom Pom Island Resort (B/L/D)

After breakfast, transfer to Semporna and continue by boat to Pom Pom Island. Check in at Celebes Beach Resort. Afternoon at leisure to relax on the island. Overnight at Pom Pom Island Resort.

Day 9 – Pom Pom Island Resort (B/L/D)

Full day at leisure on Pom Pom Island. Enjoy snorkelling, swimming or simply relax on the beach. Overnight at Pom Pom Island Resort.

Day 10 – Departure (B/L)

Morning free at leisure. After lunch, boat transfer to Semporna and overland transfer to Tawau Airport for onward travel. End of service.
