6D5N Sabah Adventure – Kinabatangan River & Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Duration: 6 Days / 5 Nights
This adventure combines two of Sabah’s most iconic wildlife destinations – the Kinabatangan River and Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Enjoy river cruises, rainforest treks, wildlife encounters and the hospitality of HAK’s B&B in Lahad Datu.
Day 1 – Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (L/D)
Pick up from Sandakan Airport by the Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort team. Transfer to Sandakan Jetty for a 1.5 hour boat ride to Abai, passing Berhala Island and mangrove-lined estuaries. Arrive at Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (KWR) around 2.30pm for check-in and lunch. In the afternoon, set off for a river cruise in search of proboscis monkeys, kingfishers and firefly colonies. Dinner at the lodge followed by a guided night walk on the boardwalks to spot nocturnal wildlife. Overnight at KWR.
Day 2 – Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (B/L/D)
Early morning river cruise to oxbow lake Danau Pitas with packed breakfast on board. Later, visit Kampung Abai village to meet the Orang Sungai community. Afternoon at leisure or explore the resort surroundings for plants, insects and birdlife. Late afternoon river cruise along small tributaries for more wildlife spotting. After dinner, join a night river safari to search for nocturnal animals. Overnight at KWR.
Day 3 – HAK’s B&B, Lahad Datu (B/D)
After breakfast, check out from KWR and enjoy a two-hour boat journey upriver to Sukau village. Land transfer to Lahad Datu for an overnight stay at HAK’s B&B. Dinner and breakfast included.
Day 4 – Tabin Wildlife Resort (B/L/D)
Morning transfer (approx. 2 hours) to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Check into your timber lodge at Tabin Wildlife Resort with private balcony and modern comforts. After lunch, trek to the active Lipad mud volcano, a natural salt lick attracting wildlife. Climb the observation tower, spot animal tracks and try the volcanic mud for its skin benefits. Evening presentation on Tabin’s biodiversity followed by a night safari. Overnight at Tabin Wildlife Resort.
Day 5 – Tabin Wildlife Resort (B/L/D)
Early morning bird walk to discover some of Tabin’s nearly 300 bird species. After breakfast, drive to the core area for animal spotting and a trek to Lipad Waterfall for a refreshing dip. Afternoon relaxation or try the Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak, a natural herbal remedy for tired muscles. Evening dusk drive for nocturnal wildlife spotting, followed by a night walk to search for sleeping birds, frogs and other creatures. Overnight at Tabin Wildlife Resort.
Day 6 – Lahad Datu (B/L)
Optional dawn drive or jungle walk at additional cost. Breakfast and leisure time until check-out at 1.30pm. Lunch at the resort before transfer back to Lahad Datu town. End of service.
