Sepilok Nature Resort

Nestled at the edge of the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, Sepilok Nature Resort is a tranquil lodge surrounded by lush rainforest, a peaceful lake, and tropical gardens. Just minutes from the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, it is the perfect base for travelers seeking both comfort and close encounters with nature.

Location & Surroundings

Located 40 minutes from Sandakan Airport, the resort is within walking distance of Sepilok’s major wildlife attractions. A 5-minute walk brings you to the Orangutan Centre and the Sun Bear Conservation Centre, while the Rainforest Discovery Centre is just 15 minutes away. The Kinabatangan River and Sukau region are also easily accessible for unforgettable wildlife cruises.

Wildlife Encounters

Because of its location at the forest edge, wildlife sightings are common. Guests have spotted orangutans, macaques, gibbons, tarsiers, civet cats, monitor lizards, squirrels, hornbills and kingfishers right around the resort. Fall asleep to the chorus of frogs, and wake up to birdsong and the calls of gibbons.

The Resort Experience

The resort features 23 wooden chalets set around the lake and in the gardens, home to more than 150 species of orchids. Each chalet is spacious, rustic in style, and equipped with ceiling fan, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom with hot shower, and a private veranda with views of the lake or garden.

Check-in is from 2:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 pm. Guests can relax at the main building, which houses a restaurant, lounge, sundeck, and covered terrace – all designed in traditional wooden architecture. Meals combine local and Western cuisine served with views over the lake. Breakfast is 7:00–10:30 am, lunch 12:30–2:00 pm, and dinner 7:00–8:30 pm.
